Wednesday Fellowship

The structure for this assembly has changed! Here at this gathering we meet in the middle of the week. Here is the following structure:

  • Opening Prayer
  • Testimonies
  • In Between The Lines
  • Bible Study
  • Takeaways
  • Fellowship

Opening prayer, I will begin with prayer to welcome and pray over the gathering. Testimonies, here is where people share either their testimony of how they came to Christ or a testimony of the week. You should have a testimony if you are living by faith. No testimony = dead relationship with Jesus Christ. You should be constantly seeking Jesus Christ which ties us into… In Between The Lines, This is not a typical Bible study! it is a deep dive into the text and context of the scriptures. The purpose is to know your bible. I’m talking very intimately. We are starting with the book of Hebrews. You will learn why the book was written, to who it was written and by who. With that information you will know the intentions of the book and find what points they use to convey a message. Bible Study, this is a short bible study that I assign someone to do. It enables them to practice speech and is great to learn how to convey an impactful message in a short time. Takeaways, at the end of Bible study and In Between The Lines the gathering will give feedback on things they liked or didn’t like as well as improvements. Fellowship, we hang around after to get to know our brothers and sister in Christ to bond and to close the gap from the devil.

In between the lines

Hebrews chapter 1:1-4

The book of Hebrews has no official authorship. Some may say it’s Paul but he usually identifies himself in his writings and Paul used Greek, Hebrew and other sources for his Old Testament quotations. The book of Hebrews uses the Greek Septuagint. Other suspects of authorship are, Barnabas and Priscilla, maybe even more.

Hebrews was written to Jewish believers at Rome. This isn’t completely 100% but most scholars suppose that the address was Jewish Christians because of the book’s heavy emphasis on Jewish topics and themes.

The purpose of the book Hebrews was written to address the doubts of those second guessing their conversation to Christianity. The author was showing that Christianity is the true successor to Judaism by three points.

  • Priesthood
  • Sacrifice
  • Covenant

The author uses these three points because it was the Jews know from the Law and the prophets.

Scripture using the NKJV

Verse 1:1God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

God spoke in the old testament by ways of visitation, dreams, signs, parables and events to the fathers by the prophets. The author brings up the fathers and prophets to set up an introduction for Jesus’s authority because the Jews trusted and know their fathers; Abraham, Jacob, Moses etc.

Verse 1:2has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

God has spoken to us in these present days by His Son Jesus that God appointed to inherit all things. “through whom also He made the worlds” shows that Jesus is the eternal Son of God because he was there during creation. “worlds” can also mean “ages”. World indicates the entire created universe.

Verse 1:3who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

Jesus “being the brightness” of Gods glory shows that the brightest is radiant like a ray from the sun, showing Jesus’s divinity as being one to the Father. “the express image of His person” express image means exact representation or exact character. In Greek literature the word was used of stamping a coin to engrave an image. The Son is the exact representation of God’s being because He is God Himself. The Greek word translated “person” here means “nature” once again showing Jesus is divine. “upholding all things by the word of His power” shows Jesus maintains and directs creations course as we see in John chapter 1. “Himself purged our sins” Jesus redeemed us through the purging (cleansed or purified) of our sins through his once and for all sacrifice. “sat down” suggests the formal act of assuming the office of High Priest. Showing that Jesus has divine priesthood.

Verse 1:4having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

become so much better than the angels” The Son, Jesus Christ is better than the angels, or higher in rank, because He sits at the right hand of God “He has by inheritance” Jesus inherited everything and everyone. Through faith in Jesus we have a covenant of eternal life.

The three points

Priesthood– Verses 1 and 3 show that Jesus is the high priest as well as showing Jesus to be eternal, and appointed by the Father to inherit all things.

Sacrifice– Verse 3 also shows that Jesus has redeemed us by being the once and for all sacrifice for sins.

Covenant– Verse 2 shows that Jesus was there since the beginning of creation and verse 4 shows that Jesus “has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.” Giving Jesus everything and showing by faith in Jesus we become children of God, then becoming parters of Jesus’s reign because we have been adopted by God to be his sons and daughters.

Purpose of In Between The Lines

The purpose of In Between The Lines is to get you in the mindset of the times which these events of history took place. We do not live nor practice in the traditions which the Jews did, not everyone. Every word of the Bible is precise and has a purpose. When Jesus or the Prophets speak to the Israelites they mention things only the Jews would understand in parables, lamentations or prophecy’s. In Between The Lines’s purpose is to bring those things to the mind to have a deeper understanding of scripture.

Visa Status

To continue our application for visas my family has to go back to the states. We have purchased our flights and will leave Okinawa July 14th. We will begin the states from 1-3 months and come back to Okinawa, God willing.

Yes it is a bump in the road but I say that is a wrong viewpoint. It is an opportunity to share Jesus in the states where we are staying and to build our ministry. Thank you for being part of our family and for growing the Kingdom of God.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. Corinthians 9:6-8 NKJV
